Revival Files: Newspaper Flowers

Have I told you guys that me and Sir Matt are moving?! Well we are! This week and next week we're packing our little home up and heading far far away...okay so we're just going down the street to somewhere that will let us have a puppy and paint (can I get a woop woop for puppies and paint!). As any girl knows the best part of moving is redecorating. I mean really though, why the heck else would I agree to spending night after night boxing stuff up. But here's the thing....we have a tiny tiny budget to redecorate. So I've been searching for things that are completely free, thus my newspaper flower vases!

All I did was spray paint some vases I already had, then I used this tutorial and this tutorial to make the flowers. I  glued the flowers to dowels and plopped them in the vase. I love how easy they were and even more than that they were completely one hundred percent free!

Can you guess the new color scheme for our living room?
Oh also.

WHAT KIND OF PUPPY SHOULD WE GET!!??
We're both new to picking out puppies so any advice would be much appreciated!

  3. Ooh love the paper flower idea!
I'd say get a pug, but then again I am biased! Though, before you bring a puppy home you should make sure you research the breed and ensure it is compatible to your lifestyle. Also, please don't buy from a pet store! Find a good breeder or adopt from a shelter. A good breeder or shelter will ask lots of questions and make sure that you are good match for the puppy.

  4. I have never had a dog but I have always wanted a Boston terrier...but I think it's best if you go to a rescue centre and just tell them about your lifestyle and dog experience, and they'll match you up with whoever fits :)

    I am rather jealous!

  5. Definitely get a rescue dog...

  6. What ever breed you get, do lots of reseach to make sure its health, engergy level, and costs fit into your lifestlye. I do recommend getting a puppy that doesn't shed.

  7. i'd stay away from an Australian shepherd! my husband and i have one and he is super duper energetic. and badly behaved. :) a golden retriever or something nice and low maintenance.

  8. If you get a miniature schnauzer puppie I'll love you forever. They are the cutest, best dogs in the world! best of all they don't shed! i wish I could get a puppy...

ps. don't be surprised if you get a few puppy ads on your fb wall.

  9. I would adopt a pup from a rescue agency or shelter if you can (petfinder.com). Of all the dogs in my life, the mixed breeds have been the healthiest, smartest, & best behaved. I am currently dog-"mom" to a black lab mix & he is wonderful. But the nice thing about smaller breeds is you can travel with them much more easily. Be prepared for some sleepless nights & a lot of energy on potty training - it's almost like having a baby in the beginning. :)

  10. I second the rescue dog idea- look for a "no-kill" rescue. That's where I got my pup, and he's super smart and cute. Bigger dogs are potty trained easier and more independent, but also eat more and need more exercise. I like golden retrievers and labradors :)

  11. Daschunds are super loyal, almost to a fault. We have a 5 year old Doxie, and she was so clingy we had to get her a friend. I would say it all depends on what size home/apartment/condo you guys have. Will you have a yard? We have a doxie (obv.) and a corgi-shepard mix we adopted to be the doxie's friend. Shelter dogs are a great resource too, and sometimes cheaper than a purebred. Good luck in the puppy hunt!

  12. Pupppiesss! Oh I wish i could have a Puppy! I've always been fond of labs. They're very obedient and smart. I also LOVE cockerspaniels. They're just so pwetttty. Good luck on your move. Have fun redecorating.

  13. I fourth or fifth the shelter idea! My mutt is husky Rottweiler, she is gorgeous, super sweet, and was already crate and house trained! Plus they are a lot cheaper, often have fewer health concerns, and hey, you're saving a life :)

  16. WOOP WOOP. What a great idea! Now I want to make multi-colored tissue paper flowers. Craft project for this weekend!

Get a maltese-they'll be your best friend always! Or get a lab-I don't think I've ever had a more loyal dog!

  19. I have to echo the comments to get a shelter or rescue dog. The shelters and rescues usually work with prospective owners to make sure it's a good fit.

The last thing they want is to re-rescue an unwanted dog. And make sure to do lots of research about costs and whether the dog will fit your lifestyle.

Like someone else said, an animal really is like a child - lifetime committment, but so rewarding! Shelter/rescues all the way - save a life!

  20. Where are you moving to? And how did you find it? You are soo lucky! We live in Provo and it's SUPER hard to find an apt/house that will let you have pets! Ahh I'm so jealous!

  21. Since this dog will be visiting Cali, I think you should get a Laberdoodle because I have always wanted one! Dad thinks you should get a Boston Terrier, they are smaller, so yes, less nose prints on all your car windows. Did Sir Matt tell you he is only slightly partial to dogs? Can't wait to see your new place!!!!

  23. Happy moving! Those flowers look super spiffy.
Do get: A mutt. From the shelter. Or a husky-corgi mix.
Don't get: A purebred. Especially a Basenji. They're the spawn of the devil.

  24. Aww puppies! We have a cocker spaniel puppy (English rather than American) and they're lovely dogs, and happy either in the city or country - friendly, small-to-medium, they like people (especially cuddling!) and get on well with other dogs, they're medium energy so they like walks but aren't crazy hyperactive, but they do need lots of brushing 'cause they have crazy hair! I'm biased of course, but we did lots of research before we got our pooch and I just love him! Good luck in your search :)

  27. Ahh so many awesome puppies to start researching. What will I pick?!

Norma: I saw a labradoodle the other day and fell in love. Matt really likes them too actually so maybe that'll be the one for us. He told me he's not really big on animals but hey that just means more puppy loving for me!

Alyssa Jesse: WE actually found the apartment on KSL. It really can be tricky to find a place that will let you paint and have pets but there are a few. Keep looking! KSL usually has great listings!

Heather: I'm so sad I missed the puppies at petsmart. They randomly have dogs that need adopting and I always seem to miss whenever it's going on. Let me know next time they do it!
